Hello, future scientists! Have you ever wondered where the rain comes from or why puddles disappear on a sunny day? It's all part of a fantastic journey that water takes called the Water Cycle! Our planet has a fixed amount of water, and the water cycle is how it moves all around Earth, changing forms but never disappearing. It's like a giant, endless loop! Let's explore the main steps of this incredible journey.

📌 Evaporation: Water Goes Up!

Evaporation is the first big step in the water cycle. This is when liquid water turns into an invisible gas called water vapor. What makes it happen?

Think about a pot of boiling water or wet clothes drying on a line. The water seems to vanish, but it's actually turning into water vapor and floating up into the sky! About \(90\%\) of the moisture in the atmosphere comes from evaporation.

💡 Condensation: Clouds are Born!

Once water vapor is in the air, it starts to rise. As it goes higher, the air gets much colder. This leads to the next step: Condensation.

You can see condensation in action when you take a hot shower and the mirror fogs up, or when cold juice forms tiny water droplets on the outside of your glass on a warm day. A single cloud can hold thousands of gallons, sometimes even over \(1,000,000\) gallons of water!

✅ Precipitation: Water Comes Down!

When clouds get really full of water droplets or ice crystals, they can't hold any more. That's when we get Precipitation!

Precipitation can come in different forms:

The amount of precipitation can vary a lot! Some deserts might get less than \(25\) cm of rain per year, while rainforests can get over \(250\) cm!

🚀 Collection: Where Water Gathers!

After precipitation falls, the water needs a place to go! This is the Collection stage.

This collected water then starts the whole cycle again, ready to be evaporated by the sun. The water you drink today might have been part of a dinosaur's bath millions of years ago!

Did You Know? The water cycle is sometimes called the Hydrologic Cycle. It's constantly moving water around our planet, ensuring that all living things have the water they need to survive!
